SANTORINI MUST-SEES!

Fira is the life and buzz of Santorini! Originally known as Hora, it is situated right on the rim of the caldera, 260m above sea level. Fira consists of a long, narrow collection of buildings with steep, narrow alleys, which teem with museums, small art galleries, local product stores and jewellery shops. In addition, the numerous cafeterias and restaurants available, make it a great place from where to experience the legendary sunset.

The charming village of Oia, situated at the north point of Santorini, exceeds all expectations. Oia hosts the most magnificent views over the volcanic islets and caldera, while the wealth from its commercial trading days is evident in its marble flooring, art galleries and jewellery shops. Adding to that, its colourful Cycladic architecture with its blue domes is truly beautiful.

Visit the highest point of the island at an altitude of approximately 600m. and enjoy the amazing panoramic views of Santorini. Situated at its summit, the Monastery of “ProfitiIlias”, an 18th century sanctuary that many travellers come to discover.

The former capital of Santorini, whose mesmerizing beauty lies within its narrow winding cobbled paths and dead ends, surrounded by Cycladic architecture and Byzantine churches, which eventually lead to the ruins of the Venetian castle at the highest point of the village overlooking the whole of Santorini, Pyrgos is by far the most ideal place to walk around and feel the glorious vibes of nobility and history.

An opportunity to step foot on the wide stretch of hot volcanic black sands which Santorini boasts, as well as dive into its deep, crystal blue waters. Most have yet to live the experience!

The most iconic beach of Santorini! The famous red beach features Santorini’s multi-coloured Volcanic Cliffs, which have plunged into the sea, creating a shore of red fine pebbles. Due to falling stones, it is now considered dangerous to reach on foot, but it is highly recommended to see even from a distance.

Imerovigli belongs to the Pirate Era! Its position allows you to view the whole of the caldera and take exquisite photographs, as well as to see the fortress in ruins. One of the most important fortresses to ever exist, it dates back to the 1200’s and is situated directly in front of Imerovigli’s cliff tops. It was destroyed by the volcanic eruption in 1650AD.

HISTORICAL PLACES TO VISIT...

Akrotiri is a small, picturesque village bordering the prehistoric Settlement of Akrotiri, one of the most important Archaeological sites globally. A city that has remained alive beneath the lava for 3,500 years, tells its story to today’s visitors.

An archaeological site not to be missed, Ancient Fira features the second most significant period in the history of Santorini. Located on top of Mesa Vouno 369m high (otherwise translated as the “inside mountain”), Ancient Thera was first founded by the Spartans led by King Thera, who was meant to have given his name to the island. In later years, its strategic location was valued by the Ptolemies. This archaeological site, where excavations began in 1896, boasts both ruins from Hellenistic and Roman periods, and a spectacular view over Kamari and Perissa.

The prehistoric museum of Fira takes you back in time and outlines the course of prehistoric Thera, through various findings from excavations, dating back to Neolithic, Minoan and Hellenistic periods onwards. You will be astounded by the unique beauty of the findings displayed in the Museum. A visit to this museum would be ideally coupled with a visit to the Akrotiri archaeological site.

Visiting a Santorinian winery is a must when travelling to Santorini, whether you are escorted by a professional sommelier or simply a knowledgeable companion. The volcanic grounds create a distinctive location for grapes to grow. The wines of Santorini are unique and their type cannot be found anywhere else across the globe. To name a few:

Santo Winery… the largest winery in Santorini located in one of the most stunning spots of the island, where you can taste exquisite wines whilst looking over the views of the caldera.

Gavalas Winery… A vineyard with fine wine labels, continuing a 300-year family tradition in the production of wine, situated in Megalochori.

Boutari Winery … An all- year- round open winery, with beautiful places for touring and tasting wines.
